Living on the Edge

Inspired by the separation of spaces by activity, and use of thresholds in relation to compression and expansion of the Schindler House (1922), we designed two dwellings isolated by a canyon but connected by a bridge. The bridge serves as an expansion of the floor and of the dwellings into the entire site. Because the house furthest from the street is only accessible by the bridge, a shift from public to private spaces occurs as one moves across the canyon. We both utilized the idea of stacking masses and atomization of program in our designs, so that the conceptual similarities would further connect our dwellings together.
