Minding the Gap

The city of Glendale sits in a narrow two mile gap between the Santa Monica and Verdugo Mountains, but despite this proximity, all connectivity has been severed by urban sprawl, with detrimental effects for human and nonhuman residents. This project reconnects these two important habitat resources using the existing infrastructural network, relying on conversions of streets to parks and capping a three mile stretch of the Verdugo wash. In doing so it aims to improve habitat quality, reduce urban heat effects, and improve the hydrology of the local region.
