Disalignment

Using the logic of alignment and disalignment derived from the study of Tangram, this project explores public spaces designed in disalignment with private spaces inside units. The overall building consists of an upper massing with three voids and three towers below to support it. Also a sunken plaza is excavated for the public to gather and rest.
To build an icon around USC, it’s designed to be interesting, healthy and unique. Facade inspired by public sculptures in Yugoslavia not only provide openings for units, but also help support the structure. Both plaza and building facade serve as a rock-climbing area, where people can even climb into the voids.
