The Training Field
This project explores how a series of 4 quadrant grids can define and facilitate movement through a space. The site is developed through this 4 quadrant grid, used in plan and elevation, which then dictates how a basketball player can use each space, creating a system that manipulates the site into a training facility. Taking inspiration from Muscle Beach, various lines and extrusions were created to serve as either basketball hoops to practice shooting, pull up bars for strength, obstacles for preforming various drills, and a quarter court, which allows for the basketball player to practice shooting 3 pointers by standing in each corner of the court. These elements are extended to the water as well. The three pavilions also serve as more concentrated training facilities, such as the furniture pavilion that is made to practice shooting, the room pavilion that is made for footwork, strength, and free throws, and the dwelling pavilion that combines all previously listed uses, as well as incorporating areas for stretching and relaxation.
