Mat Clusters
This proposal for a multi-unit share house examines the relationship between the neighborhood, dwelling, and privacy. On the ground floor a mat building incorporates a community kitchen, dining hall, gym, retail, and enclosed parking for cars, electric vehicles, and bicycles. On top of this, several different unit types are clustered in a manner that form integral outdoor spaces for the inhabitants, such as courtyards, “front yards,” and “backyards,” and private patios. The elevated podium serves to connect residents to the neighborhood and, at the same time, separates them from the street, providing a sense of security and privacy.
