LEIMERT PARK INSTITUTE OF FILM ARTS

Since pedestrian experience and socializing are primary inputs for the design, the project aims to encourage active communication by focusing on solid-void relationships caused by orthogonal spatial stacking arrangements.The voids, which are used for pocket gardens, provide additional flexible spaces and visual connections to other adjacent programs and the Leimert Park community. The outdoor screening room, gardens, and metro plaza are also determined by the grid system in terms of structural concept and materiality. There are two stacking bars on each floor and those are adjacent to the central atriums to enhance circulation throughout the building. Twisted steel façade, with closed and open parts oscillating between transparency to one side and opacity to the other, is applied in the design. The closed parts provide high insulation while blocking direct sunlight and allowing views out.
