Tension of Consciousness
Over the course of the semester, I have developed a thesis of tension regarding thresholds. Across humanity and within the material world, there are embedded tensions that impact our everyday lives. Through human interactions with materials, spaces, and shapes that are tense and conscious, I have begun exploring how human social consciousness and morality might shift and broaden. In the final project, I took the hyperbolic paraboloid shapes that are revealed under fabric tension, and created a metro station. The roof’s shape allows the viewer to maintain a consciousness of self and space. Similarly, the extended program of a public green space and community garden attempt to further this consciousness amongst the users and the community.
