Home Reshaped
Sparked by the concept of ambiguous elements and relationships from Robert Venturi’s Complexity and Contradiction, this micro-dwelling’s individual elements might not seem to make sense on their own, but do when understood in relation to the broader form. Similar to origami, the entire shape of the structure can be unfolded into a single strip of triangles. The resulting form of the project captures the spirit of imagination, representative of the bursts of creative energy that emanate from Watt Hall. The dynamic angles of the form and its interiority suggest particular kinds of movement that reflect this creative energy. Viewing the form from multiple perspectives demonstrate the ambiguity that is fundamental to the design. Ambiguous elements include the location of entrances, fenestration, and boundaries between inside and outside. These elements seem irrational when considered individually, but their meaning is evident when considering the overall design.
