Hidden in Plain Poche

This project explores the conceptual and functional aspects of a micro dwelling with a specific emphasis on the relationship between interior and exterior space. To implement this, Venturi’s notion of “residual space that… might be called ‘open poche’” was examined. Architecturally, this is made manifest by a double height courtyard and terrace that acts as a primary space that other spaces refer to.

Situating these open poche spaces around outdoor spaces provides a constant tension and connection between inside and out. Moreover, the concept of ‘open poche’ is also used functionally. By using open poche to house transformable furniture elements not only maximized but also, the function of various elements is hidden in plain sight (or poche in this case.) This provides optimal use of space while also creating and environment that holds a sense of curiosity.
