Primary Spaces and Perimeters
This project creates a valuable opportunity for guest lectures to meet up with other faculty members and students, to teach and network. The proposal provides a temporary home for the user, maximizing the social interaction function and also allowing for a secure private space. The courtyard is the project’s core. With its flexible built-in furniture, it is a primary space that serves for faculty gathering with various configurations. Considering the site is in South California, with abundant sunlight exposure and low precipitation levels, the courtyard also functions as an ‘open to the sky’ living room. Other programs are distributed around the courtyard with a hierarchy approach, with various levels of privacy. The exterior courtyard is in the center, and other programs embrace it like a welcoming hug.
