ARCH 605A: Graduate Architecture Design II Gallery: USC Village International House

STEREOTOMICOSM

The project focuses on developing housing for international students studying at USC. The scale of the International Housing aspires to create a landmark which the students can identify with while in residency. The form and function of the design is informed by the need for having community spaces, public plaza & circulation that promotes social interaction. The active nature of USC Village is emulated in the housing with green spaces scattered throughout the building.

The structure is raised from the site to retain the existing quad and connects the building to the USC village. Stacked bars of residential units create a solid void condition which helps create a micro-climatic environment and optimally utilizes the pleasant weather conditions of Los Angeles.

The integration of the plaza with the building & the units with the community spaces would help to create a better social environment for the students and instill a sense of diversity, inclusion & culture.
