Home Movie

The project is an abstract representation of a house that was designed in tandem with the production of four films. These four films indicate four different spaces: a kitchen, a bathroom, a DVD Bang, and a garage that when structured together into a movie they make a home. The movie explores a process intensive labor, that exposes the passage of time, abstraction as a tool for translation, and representing a new typology of users through sound dissonance.

Are We There Yet?

Memory, a term ubiquitous with the experience of reality and yet rarely considered in Architectural design. Designing with memory is an intuitive and visceral process, further described as iterative, digressive, divergent and simultaneous. Free flowing creativity applied to an intuitive medium such as clay can release ideas that are usually restricted, and inspire a retrospective glance on past decisions .

Taste Buddy

As Social distancing becomes imperative in the era of the pandemic, social interaction as we know of could be forever changed. Technology has already proven an effective way to connect people through social media and online dating apps but these platforms are often a temporary panacea for feelings of isolation.

Taste Buddy is a virtual platform that strives to provide an enhanced experience of companionship in our contemporary society. Through advancement in connection through technology, Taste Buddy combats superficial interactions and loneliness through matching users based on personalities and emphasis on building relationship rather than superficial interaction.

REIGUAL

My project explores frames of thought and it’s impact on the reality of an object. The object of focus is a cookie-cutter single family home, of which hundreds frame the San Pedro Drive In. The film explores the reality of home as it’s observer changes over time.

Anthromorph

Within architecture there’s is a missing conversation and relationship between itself and the occupant, the occupant typically simplify INHABITING architecture rather than LIVING within it. Architecture should not only be a shell but also a blanket that envelopes the human experience, molding itself to the occupant. Architecture can be and should be designed by movement of the occupant as movement is the pure embodiment of the human habitation. Presenting the ANTHROMORPH, a new form of architecture that designates the occupant as a designer rather than the architect.

Agave, Tequila & Architecture: Urbanism in El Arenal

This project proposes an urban landscape that incorporates El Arenal’s main source of income, blue agave and architecture. The project reorganizes and redistributes the fields and portions of the town. It also proposes buildings that house public services, buildings that remain even after the land use around them changes. The project operates and reorganizes the hacienda “cell” that predates the town. Operation and reorganization will be connected to the agave sale price, as it reaches a certain profit value a new building will be erected yet as the agave prices drop, the town will be able to manipulate the land and have more agave plantations.

Paper Architecture

This thesis focuses on the construction of comfort within domestic environments through the dependency on architectural systems and rigid boundaries and construction methods. Looking at textiles as an architectural element, this project experiments with boundary conditions and comfort in the formation of domestic space.

The Potential Use of Multi-Occupant Bio-signals for High-Performance Building Control Mechanisms

The study investigates the possibility of the use of bio-signals to assess indoor environmental satisfaction in multi-occupancy conditions while solving out the potential conflict between different occupants’ diverse environmental preferences. This study adopted multiple Machine-Learning algorithms to identify the relationship between bio-signals and IEQ in multi-occupancy condition. Considering all human bio-signals, IEQ elements, and gender demonstrated greater than 90% accuracy for estimating IEQ satisfaction in multi-occupant condition.

Using Building Information Modeling with Augmented Reality: Visualizing and Editing MEP Systems with a Mobile Augmented Reality Application

A BIM-based mobile AR application, TransBIM, was developed to visualize, edit, and update the building information model in the AR environment, specifically for MEP systems. Changes made in AR can sent back to Revit and Dynamo was used to update the Revit Model.

A Proposal for Building Envelope Retrofit on the Bonaventure Hotel: A Case Study Examining Energy and Carbon

A unique building in downtown Los Angeles has been selected as a testbed for various hypothetical studies of facade replacement strategies, for energy and carbon control. The main objective of this study is to analyze the energy performance of an existing building, retrofit its facade, consider CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and enhance environmental sustainability. Embodied carbon, facade limitations, and combinatorial iterations were all design suggestions in the Revit to IES-VE simulation. Over 300 facade retrofit alternative studies have been completed for this research, comparing a variety of horizontal louvers, vertical fins, brise soleils, and overhangs. This study proposes and analyzes a small set of design alternatives for the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.
