Office Floor Plans Generation Based on Generative Adversarial Network

Creating a new way of architecture drawing based on machine learning to save architecture or BIM modelers’ time: Based on the BIM data set of an architecture firm, Dynamo (a visual programming language in the Revit) was used to obtain a training set and a test set — two groups of the paired pictures. one type of the GAN called pix2pixHD were trained based on the training set, which is a process of learning the relationship between two paired image. A floor plan with all facilities locations would be predicted by given a certain shape of the room. Then the predicted result is reversed and input back to the rooms with facilities in Revit.

Impacts of Building Performance on Occupants’ Work Productivity

The indoor environmental conditions at 1865 workstations from over 60 modern office buildings were studied as part of an integrated Post Occupancy Evaluation study. The offices were located in research and development, public, private, and commercial buildings. Measured IEQ data and occupant responses were correlated with human factors such as age, gender, and spatial factors such as workstation location and its degree of enclosure. The study focuses on identifying the impacts of IEQ on self-reported work productivity.

IMPACT OF BAMBOO MATERIALS ON INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Indoor air quality (IAQ) is one of the components of indoor environmental quality that needs considerable attention from building designers. Currently, people spend 90% of their daily routine in indoor spaces. It is not only necessary to be aware of the role of indoor environmental quality on wellbeing, but also the impacts from buildings components. The presented research explores the influence of building materials on VOC emissions. A two story residential house is used as the case study to assess the impact from materials in the building envelope on IAQ by using the CONTAM indoor air quality simulation tool.

DESIGN AND MODELING OF AN ENGINEERED BAMBOO STUD WALL IN SOLIDWORKS

Alternative, low carbon materials are emerging for use in construction. The presented research explored the use of laminated bamboo in a light-frame wood construction, a common method of building design. The research explored the design and modeling of a wall panel in SolidWorks to identify barriers in incorporating nonconventional materials in design and engineering. The results delved into the modeling, as well as the simulation of the structural behavior of an engineered bamboo stud wall.

Multi-occupancy Environmental Control for Smart Connected Communities

The project proposes an integrative approach that developed a community member-centered framework for determining the heating system control of the building through multi-standard decision-making driven by bio-sensing, which could establish a tailor-made building environment control system to reduce energy consumption and improve comfort of occupants.
