ELEMENTS
My co-living housing proposal complies with the formal qualities of the rectangular frame of the commercial, but also begins to carve out space to refer to the adjacent residential fronts. All the spaces are bounded by the 10’x10’ grid, which confines the overall exterior form but then begins to integrate these cuts and jagged turns on the inside to create a variety of pockets of space for both circulation and exterior seating areas. One of my infatuations was trying to create a variety of textures by only using one kind of exterior cladding. I was able to do this through a system of line-work and color, which acted as a representation of other materials. The stacking of the dwelling units create these vertical voids that run across the project, which allows for visual interaction from one side of the building to the other and begins sculpting rays of light.
