Housing for the Collective Good

The concept for this project, a co-housing complex combined with a music store located on site C, is derived from the site’s urban context of adjacency to one commercial street and one residential street on the corner lot. This informs the form of the building through a separation between the residential program on one side of the lot and the commercial program on the other, with a void in between consisting of a communal courtyard and indoor space. While the record store is accessible from the commercial street, the co-housing complex is entered through the courtyard and the glass facade of the community rooms. From here, an occupant can then make their way over to the primary residential program, a long bar with semi-communal living spaces in the middle with balconies and private rooms on either side.
