Nodal Refraction
The proposed Metro Station serves a connector for both Little Tokyo and the Arts District. My main focus this semester was the study of the forced perspective and how it translates from 3D to 2D. The gestures of the tapering roof and sloped landscape add an additional dimension to the forced perspective drawing all to the station’s central core. The various components such as the pedestrian bridge and corners are reinforced by connecting to a grand staircase at the center. This staircase has radial landings that act as mezzanines that users can inhabit. The platform at the track level is open to natural sunlight and acts as a connector of what is below and above. Like in the previous challenges, it creates an almost-seamless transition or “Limbo” space. Tying this back to the entire semester, I have been attempting to break the mold of the strict definition of the threshold as the starting point or end point. Instead, the individuals experiencing this transition would view it more as a seamless void that is an entity in itself.
