Oakwood Community Center

THE RECREATION OF THE CENTER AIMS TO REBUILD THE STRONG AND TIGHT CONNECTION IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THEREFORE, THE CENTER IS DESIGNED WITH AN OPENED COURTYARD PLACED ON THE GROUND FLOOR TO CREATE A WELCOMING AND INVITING ATMOSPHERE TO THE USERS. THE COURTYARD IS ALSO CONNECTED TO THE PARK LINEARLY TO EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF OUTDOOR SPACES IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. THE CENTER IS STRUCTURED IN A TWO-WING-LIKE ORGANIZATION TO INDICATE A CLEAR PATHWAY TO THE PARK. THE INTERIOR OF THE STRUCTURES ARE COMPOSED OF MULTIPLE GLASS FACADES TO EMPHASIZE THE VISUAL CONNECTION IN BETWEEN THE PROGRAMS, AND BECOMING TRANSITIONAL SPACES BEFORE ENTERING EACH PROGRAMS. THE EXTERIOR FACADES ARE MADE OF WOOD TO CORRESPOND TO THE SURROUNDING BUNGALOWS. THE WHOLE DESIGN AIMS TO MAKE THE CENTER MORE CONTEXTUAL AND SITE RELATED TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IT CELEBRATES THE USE OF TRADITIONAL MATERIAL (WOOD) MEANWHILE USE THE MORE MODERN MATERIAL (GLASS AND ETFE FOIL CUSHION) TO CREATE BALANCE BETWEEN THE OLD AND NEW.
