Odd Lots: Queen’s Ordinance

Understanding a map through contemporary property lines, terrain, and geological features opened up a new way to understand an elements spatial condition. Through a speculative format, this project redefines the imaginary boundaries that context land and mass. The final project was to design an affordable housing community, located in Queens,NYC. Understanding the spatial condition of the site meant also understanding the history of what was constructed/deconstructed in the location’s past history. Learning from New York’s model of double decker, and Chicago’s take on improved housing ordinance, I combined their speculative formats to hybridize each element that can be taken from the site. Redefining boundaries, openings, and material attributes are what created a once isolated typology into a more open stimulated living condition. The Queen’s Ordinance.
