Ramp Mountain

There are two considerations I had when designing an accessible residence. One was the functional accessibility that adhered to the ADA by the use of a ramp. The other, not demanded by the ADA but something people have to contend with at some point in their life, a live in caretaker. The ramp works in service of informing the project’s form, organization, access, and lifestyle. The section provides opportunities to create spatial moments of visual connection and overlook that allow for certain proximity but not at the expense of privacy. The primary resident and the live in caretaker inhabit different interiors/units that are separated by a glass shell offset from the building to provide sense that one is exiting and entering two different units.
