Team 3: AUTHORS IN COMMUNITY

Our project seeks to design an environment that would allow and promote the success of authors and writers living in community. The two primary ways we addressed this were through the idea of pacing mirroring the flow of thoughts and ideas and looking at how larger change in elevation creates a different view and feeling. The structures draw upon rectilinear forms, aggregation, access and its relation to circulation, and misalignment found in the Moriyama House. Additionally, there is an emphasis on transition spaces as well as the roofs becoming an extension of the living space, establishing the relationship between the indoors and outdoors. Overall, our structures contain many shared spaces rooted in the belief that authors and writers who live in community gain a broader perspective of the world and produce work that inspires greater compassion and understanding.
