The Prospect
The generation process of my project originated from my site research. My given Site, Site A, belongs to the core of Leimert Park, a part of the Leimert Park Village connected by the major 43rd Street in the front. The site is mainly covered with low rise residential neighborhoods. However, with very limited utilizable open space for community gathering purpose, the open space is made of only one pocket park and mostly open parking lots.
Relating to Leimert Park’s rich heritage of historical and contemporary African American art, music and culture in Los Angeles, the essential motive of my design is to activate a hybrid design concept to promote its existing rich art heritage and introduce a route of experience through exploration of form and open space.
The evolvement of the dynamic form and facade connected the public by circulating from the outside of the complex to the inside, while implying the hybrid nature by contrasting with the regular and rigid residential units’ layout.
The continuing form enlighten the public space by creating anticipation and walkable experience throughout the site.
