Vertical Density

This project proposes a coexistence between a multitude of programs in a close proximity. It critiques the current state of the city where programs are segregated horizontally. The project investigates the formal and spatial qualities that emerge when seemingly incompatible uses are organized vertically.

Addressing what may be seen as incompatible programs, such as industrial and residential, it incorporates “Buffer Zones” – open space boundaries which put an emphasis on health. These zones vary in use, from planted spaces to improve
air quality, open recreational space for physical activity, or as wells for light and air.
