Innovation Through Mastery

This studio looked at how continuity is logically necessary for architectural meaning. Consequently, in this section the precedents were not simply convenient launching pads or punching bags, but positively essential to developing the meaning of the architecture the thesis project embodies. Selected for having a very particular relationship to their own past and their own precedents, this curated group of examples challenges the students to use the past to move forward positively, and to innovate through mastery, rather than by chance.
