ARCH 499: Exhibiting the Body of Architecture

Exhibiting the Body of Architecture

Conceived of as a topical seminar with an activist interest, this course will expose students to the current thinking, curation and understanding of architecture as an exhibition site and object of scrutiny and display, insisting that architecture “exhibition” is in its own right a genre of architecture and one that produces discursive effects. The relationship between the object or “body” of architecture and how it is exhibited is a complex and slippery one. While the full scale building may be considered a site of exhibition and display – as will be explored with certain works – the seminar chooses to explore a broad range of exhibition categories and oddities from within the disciplinary boundaries to art and beyond.
