Pixel at USC Village
Deriving from the main concept of pixelization, this project serves as both a public place for gathering and also a private place for living. This building maintains the existing axis of the plaza by organizing public spaces on the ground floor around it, while also minimizing the floor space on the ground floor to preserve the nature of the plaza. The idea of pixelization occurs in the massing, in the facades through the materiality, in section, and in plan where individual dorm units are shifted inwards and outwards to create unique exterior balcony spaces and interior hallway spaces.
