Fusion Studio

Coming from the practice, the architectural life-work practice made influences on different area, like architectural theory, the way of expression and technology development. On the practice space of life and work, Fusion studio mainly views the importance of understanding the local and immediate through research as critical to the architectural process. The regionality of architecture could be represent in the history of the local humanistic. Due to the differential of regions, the imbalanced social development and various environmental conditions lead the difference in local architectural culture. Therefore, contemporary architecture’s form and function need to achieve different regional culture’s way of life.

Multilingualism

Multilingualism is a work life practice with an agency that claims responsibility to study overlapping fields; specifically art, music, computer science, and urban planning. We want be fluent in their languages and patterns in hopes of expanding our own vocabulary. We do so by employing our agents to mediate between languages of the conceptual and matter of the built environment. As a firm we believe we can use materiality, nature, and color to speak to the most amount of people simultaneously. And if people of many different background can use our space and benefit from our design decisions we can create a multilingual architecture. An architecture that speaks to many.

Home Territory: Past and Present Sanctuary

I’m working on assessing the potential of the Elysian Park area to reinstate the ancient reciprocal relationship between people and sanctuary, so that individuals in need can be supported and also support the sanctuary that shelters them, articulating an attractive alternative to existing methods to assist unhoused individuals, because I believe that there is no reason to criminalize the mere existence of an individual, and in hopes of alleviating the unhoused crisis supporting the situations of at-risk youth and the mentally ill, and in hopes of healing and recovering the ancestral relation to the land and the physical and biological manifestations of that relation through syncretic practices of commonality, these strategies are being assessed in their potential to turn this past and present sanctuary into one where people and land can heal together through reciprocity and congruence.

A New Movement for Evaluation of Architecture

To expand the critiques from hegemony of elitism to democratic negotiation, a metric of what constitutes the value of architecture will be used in the website to collect various opinions. These collected opinions will broaden our visions and redefine the canonical definition of architectural goodness.

Look INTO Facade

This thesis research chose architectural Façade as main research theme. Façade plays a role as a medium between various elements in life and architecture. Elements could be translated to façade, and façade could be translated to architecture.
Various elements could be recomposed into a collage, and this two dimensional picture could be transfered into architectural object which is considered as architectural facade in this project. Basic on the folding property of facade, one surface could be divided into three continuous facades that cover the left, top, and right of a building. In this case, how could these three continuous facades influence and define interior architectural space become the most important question in this thesis.

A liminal transfer [Folie 1, 2, 3, 4]

This thesis is driven by an investigation into the liminal spatial conditions of the Salish Sea, a dis-placed place suspended from ordinary time. Four folies mark this inland sea, acting as thresholds for negotiating intimacy and anonymity, the intangible boundaries between public and private, man’s built world and the natural: a gradient to be occupied. These ‘liminal’ spaces act as a rejection to the contemporary crisis over setting boundaries and placing punctuation, supporting the recognition that man’s incorporeal being is in a constant state of in-betweeness. ‘Coming into space’ is not separate of ‘coming into being’.

Life at every moment throws a bridge between the unconnectness of things, and stands inside or outside the door through which it will lead from its separate existence into the world, or from the world into its separate existence.

LA River Museum

This thesis aims to transfer the natural texture of Los Angeles River to the final project. To architecture, which comes from the discription and collage of Los Angeles River, can help people to enhance their perception to nature. The building can not express itself to public, however, through the simulation to Los Angeles River, it can hold the people’s memory toward the river and be given the second life by the nature.

Photography and painting can be used to illustrate the objects, so, architecture also can be an illutration of the object? I will take the positive answer. By the simulation of object, the architecture is not only a construction and building, but also an expression of nature and will become a part of nature eventually.

Hperlink

My concept comes from a very old writing in China which means that we built the wall but not using it. We define the spaces boundary with all those different architecture languages in order to define the space itself. On the other hands by overviewing the development of architecture itself. From the great massing from the ancient age like pyramid or the great wall to nowadays generic city like all those skyscrapers all over the world. With nowadays new tech like AR or VR we can experience the traditional space in a totally different perspective. What I have done is find the connection or potential between traditional elements and the hyperlink method.

Rosen Houseand Its Application in High-Density Urban Area

As we know, in high-density urban areas, people have to give up transparency because of privacy considerations and live in concrete boxes, which undoubtedly separates the relationship between man and nature. But Rosen house can provide us with an excellent example of balancing privacy and transparency. Therefore, through my thesis project, I hope to explore how to use Rosen house space model to find the method of giving consideration to transparency and privacy in residential projects in high-density urban areas.

Translucent World

Glass as an architectural material always contains a property that fulfills the space visibly but intangibly with light, granting the space meaning and making space into place without substantiating it. For Philip Johnson Glass House, Johnson uses the materiality of glass to combine the exterior and the interior, which provides a sense for residents living in the surrounding environment.

This thesis starts by analyzing different lighting tricks that the glass can do; it aims to twist the light in a space and provide joy for the whole place. They turn the glass box into an art gallery with reflection from below to space and casting shadows from above. Instead of creating another glass box, using glass sliding doors to replace the traditional wall to gives residents flexibility to completely open the space.
