Less is more: Spatial variety

The concept the project is to create flexible and minimalist space that can accommodate various activities by dividing the combined forces of the internal functional partitions of the building, while enhancing the flow of the internal space to produce the effect of maximum and infinite expansion. By using the least number of architectural elements to create the most possible spatial configurations and the maximum amount of experiential variety and spatial experience and therefore creating variety of potential use.

Proliferation in two dimensions

Based on the study of the structural form and space layout of Tamalpais Pavilion, the Pavilion space based on structure and the In-between space that break the integrity are summarized according to the architectural characteristics. Try to use these two types of spaces as basic units, proliferate in different dimensions, and develop into buildings of different scales and different functions while maintaining the purity of the precedent. This resulted in a vertical version in the city and a horizontal version in the natural landscape.

A Tale of the Citied Wall

This project exploits technology fully to make new stories. As it is now possible to overlay realities onto existing structures, I take on the “Continuous Monument” in reality, the Nanjing City Wall, to story tell a new version of human co-living with the robots and an absolute (dys)utopia. This physical and digital boundaries in the form of a wall are thus critically speculated in the final film.

Hidden Gems

“Hidden Gems is an exploration of light, its manifestations and how these can transform the urban landscape. The project looks specifically into the experience of the user and stimuli created by light in the user’s psycho-spatial relationship, attempting to understand how light supports and enhances the performance of immersive environments.
Derived from a photograph, the master plan takes the scale of a neighborhood while introducing “”The Maze””, which is composed by a series of intersecting geometries that have been transformed into a landscape of light and color.”

An Architecture of Repatriation for East Rennell, Solomon Islands

This project begins by envisioning the repatriation of objects made by the 19th century inhabitants of East Rennell, Solomon Islands, taken from the island as part of collection activities undertaken during British colonial rule. While the southern portion of the island has been declared a World Heritage site, the northern end is occupied by a mine that produces bauxite, an ore used in the production of aluminum. The objects, which were transported to the British Museum in London along colonial shipping routes, now return via the contemporary global shipping network in a set of generic containers. Upon arrival, the repatriated objects are deposited in an architecture of components that echo the island’s cultural history, emphasizing these objects’ connection to Rennellese architecture, community spaces and traditional surface ornament.
