Aperture
Aperture aims to incorporate sustainable strategies into a heavy timber mid-rise building. Being the location for the new USC Center for Social Justice, the building utilizes an integrated landscape on the second floor that maximizes public space at the ground level. By lifting the public space, it provides protestors a place to gather and an elevated view of the neighborhood which connects the center to the other landmarks in Leimert Park. The name “aperture” is derived from the design of the facade system that acts as a lens for the building that can be adjusted accordingly based on the program within. Aperture will serve as Leimert Park’s lantern that glows during the night safeguarding the community.
