WEDGING INTO NEW INSPIRATIONS

Perfervid, meaning intensity or exaggerated emotion, and wedge were the driving words that inspired these projects over the course of this semester. In the final project, my redefined Japanese joint from Project 1 heavily informs the structure’s plan and theoretical wedging can be seen in both plan and section. The aggressive angles that wedge into the existing two brick buildings of the site cause a disruption in those pre-existing buildings, which help open the abandoned brick building to the natural elements causing greenery to be spread throughout the floor of the existing structure. Programmatically, this is a place where musicians and artists can experiment with their art forms; each inspire one another with music informing the art, and art helping to inform the music. It’s a place where experimentation and creative freedom are heavily encouraged.
